Q: What should I do to prepare the room, so it is ready for plastering ?
A: We will cover the floor etc, with dust sheets, so carpets can be left down, if it is not possible to take them up.
But to make the job easier and the room safer to work in, get as much of the bulky stuff out as you can.
Also its worth bearing in mind, that when plastering and mixing a lot of dust is created,
So expensive furnishings, T.V. & Stereo equipment should be stored elsewhere.

Q: Do I have to remove the wallpaper before the walls can be plastered?
A:
Yes every scrap of wallpaper should be removed in order for the plaster to bond to the wall.

Q: After removing the wallpaper as preperation to paint my room, I noticed some of the walls are cracked and look patchy in places.
Do I need to get them all replastered?

A: This depends on how damaged the walls are. In some cases the walls can be patched up.
Although blending new plaster to old still leaves a visible line. Sometimes it is as quick to plaster the whole of the wall,
Thus the end result is a far better finish, which is important if the wall is to be painted.

Q:
My bath has leaked and the ceiling below the bathroom has been damaged, do I need to have the whole ceiling replastered?
A: When water has caused damage to a ceiling, the plaster boards absorb a lot of the water and tend to swell,
So if the ceiling hasn't come down yet, it still might, due to the extra weight from the leak.
From a safety point of view, it should be taken down as soon as possible and new plaster boards put back up,
Then a full ceiling plaster will be required.

Q: Can you cover over Artex or should it be removed by myself before you come to plaster?
A: No - Do not hack off any of the Artex this could be quite hazardous to you. Pre '70's Artex were mixed with Asbestos toxins.
We will cover the Artex and seal it, in the form a thick 'rough' layer prior to the final 'finish' layer of plaster being applied.
This is obviously more work, but it is the safest and best way to cover Artex.

Q: How long do I have to wait before I can paint new plaster?
A: You should wait at least a week until the plaster has changed colour from a dark brown to a light pink.
It really depends on the conditions of the room; temperature and the original surface on to which the plaster has been applied,
Trying to rush the plaster with heating will only cause it to crack. Opening windows will assist the whole process.

Q: Should I treat the walls with anything before applying the paint?
A: A coat of standard White matt emulsion, will seal your new plaster.
And will work as a perfect undercoat giving a true reflection of your chosen paint colour.
